“Managing Our Time”
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8; Ephesians 5:15-17
Pastor Gerry Erffmeyer
I. Use or Abuse of the Gift of Time!
- God created everything including the great gift of time.
- Satan loves to see us misuse and waste our
time.
- Time is the great equalizer – we all have exactly
the same amount each day. Our account has 86,400 seconds in it
every day. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft.
There is:
-
A time to be born and a time to die. (See
Ps 139:16)
-
A time to plant and a time to uproot. The
process can’t be hurried along.
-
A time to kill and a time to heal.
-
A time to tear down and a time to build.
-
A time to weep and a time to laugh.
-
A time to mourn and a time to dance.
-
A time to scatter stones and a time to gather
them.
-
A time to embrace and a time to refrain.
-
A time to search and a time to give up.
-
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
-
A time to tear and a time to mend.
-
A time to be silent and a time to speak.
-
A time to love and a time to hate.
-
A time for war and a time for peace.
II. Managing Our Time – Making Choices
- God has not made us as robots. We can choose how
to spend our time. Eph. 5:15-17 reminds us to “make the most”
of our time. How?
1. Sharpen your focus. So many people live lives
that have no direction and no focus, or they focus on the past.
Instead, focus on what is important.
2. In a changing world, trust the One who never changes.
-- Ecc. 12:13 “Here is the end of the matter: fear God
and keep His commandments.”
3. Don’t live in the past and don’t live in the future.
Live in the present.
-- Release your regrets and bitterness over the
past to God.
-- Release your fears and worries over the
future to God. (See Matt. 6:34)
4. Make the most of every second – right now!
-- Don’t waste even a second of your life.
-- Do you ever pray about what God wants you to
do?
-- Reading: “If I knew it was the last time…”
-- How sad if you would look back at the biggest moments
of your life and realize you missed them.
