(It would be helpful if the scripture verse for the day was printed in the worship folder or displayed on an overhead screen.)
As we worship God with our offering this morning I would like to read a scripture verse and then ask you a question.
The scripture verse for this morning is from Deut. 24:19-21:
When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the alien, the fatherless and the widow, so that the LORD your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow. When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the alien, the fatherless and the widow.
And the question is this:
Are you doing what you should, to take care of the fatherless, the widow and the alien?
Would you think about that this week?
Let's Pray:
Father, as we bring our offering this morning we confess that we frequently ignore the fatherless, the widow and the alien. Help us to look for opportunities to share of the abundance that You have given. Amen.
