 What are the Benefits of
Establishing a Legacy Foundation?

A church LEGACY FOUNDATION through Barnabas Foundation
will provide:

  • Established structure
  • Professional investment expertise
  • Documentation needed for operation of Foundation
  • Consistent management and administration
  • Promotional resources for congregation
  • Long-term focus
  • Quality service

 How is the
Legacy Foundation Structured?

The LEGACY FOUNDATION is set up at Barnabas Foundation for the exclusive benefit of your church.  It provides a way for churches to receive and hold gifts for specific purposes.  The LEGACY FOUNDATION was developed to provide churches all the advantages of a Foundation without the legal cost and work of setting up and maintaining their own.  Assets given to the Foundation are available to the church for specific purposes but are protected from creditors or any claims against the church.

Each church's LEGACY FOUNDATION includes 5 funds:

  • Missions
  • Building
  • Ministries
  • Benevolence
  • Christian Education

Members can specify any of these funds in their Estate Plans.  Additional funds may be established if they meet minimum funding requirements.

How Does the Legacy Foundation Work?

A LEGACY FOUNDATION is is designed to receive gifts that may be needed in future years or gifts that will be invested in perpetuity, with the income being distributed to the church to support various ministries.  Many gifts to the LEGACY FOUNDATION will be planned gifts resulting from:

  • Bequests
  • Charitable Gift Annuities
  • Charitable Gifts
  • Retirement Assets
  • Life Insurance

Barnabas Foundation provides regular reporting of assets in the
LEGACY FOUNDATION so leaders can monitor asset levels and performance for the church.

 How Does the Foundation Grow?

Barnabas Foundation produces and provides resources for your church to promote the Foundation and to encourage church members to do effective Estate Planning.

You will receive information on a regular basis to help educate your congregation about the purpose of the Foundation and its role in the life of your church.  This will keep your Legacy Foundation in front of those who will contribute to the Foundation's growth.

How Does Your Church set up a
Legacy Foundation?

Step One:
The church council will sign an operating agreement provided by Barnabas Foundation.
Step Two:
The council will appoint a Foundation Committee consisting of three or more people to help promote the Foundation, monitor the different funds in it and oversee the distribution of gifts.
Step Three:
The Foundation Committee will regularly promote the benefits and value of the Foundation to the church congregation, using the resources provided for this purpose.
