One of the greatest assets a church possesses is
that of its members. Each unique ability and talent offers a great
resource for action and growth.
There are 3 things that are very important in
helping church members utilize their gifts of time and talent:

Members need to know their gifts. Unless an
individual can identify one’s own unique talents and
abilities, they may never fully realize the joy and potential of
service.
It must be someone’s responsibility to track and
record those gifts in order to facilitate matching members to
areas of service. This can be a church staff member,
stewardship team member or other church member willing to
volunteer in this capacity as spiritual gifts coordinator.
A variety of service opportunities should be
promoted and made available to members in order to use their gifts
and help them serve joyfully . Some people like to volunteer
for months at a time teaching Sunday school, kids club or small
groups. Others prefer to volunteer an hour or two, occasionally.
The spiritual gifts coordinator or other church leader may find
short evening or Saturday morning times to connect with area
ministries where volunteers (both youth and adult) can paint,
clean, sort clothes, organize a food pantry, mentor a young
person, etc. These should be promoted with ample time allowed for
sign-up. (Helpful hint: Take pictures at these events to show
during subsequent worship services to create excitement for
service.)
