If
your church is doing a stewardship emphasis, be sure to include the
young children…
Research has found that children ages
7 and younger remember about 90 percent of what they do, but less
than 10 percent of what they hear. They learn best by doing,
feeling, hearing and seeing. Helping children understand financial
principles will not only help them manage their money but also
become good stewards.
The ABC Learning Bank from Crown
Financial Ministries is an effective and practical tool many
churches (and parents) have used to help teach children the basics
of handling money God’s way. The bank has 3 separate compartments
for giving, saving and spending. It is designed for children as
young as 5 years old.
Churches have given this bank to
young children following a church-wide stewardship emphasis or as a
follow-up to Sunday school lessons when stewardship principles have
been taught. This can be repeated each year as new students enter a
particular grade level.
A special note
to the child and a parent
letter are helpful in promoting this resource.
